Monard reports his discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered CCD images taken on May 17.108 (with the new object at mag 15.6 +/- 0.3) and July 1.103 UT (mag 16.2). SN 2003gi is located at R.A. = 0h38m32s.67, Decl. = -24o20'33".5, which is 1" east and 9" south of the nucleus of IC 1561. Nothing is present at this location on an image taken by Monard on Apr. 29.134 (limiting mag 18.0) or on the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag 19). NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are intended to be preliminary announcements of items that later appear in the formal IAU Circulars.
