Wang, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; and D. Baade, European Southern Observatory (ESO), report that SN 2005de and SN 2005df were observed on Aug. 6 using the ESO Very Large Telescope (+ FORS1) in spectropolarimetry mode. The spectroscopic data show that both SN 2005de and SN 2005df are type-Ia supernovae, about a week before optical maximum. The Ca II infrared triplets show a two-component structure very similar to SN 2001el (Wang et al. 2003, Ap.J. 591, 1110). The bluer components are much stronger than their redder counterparts; the minima of the bluer components are at velocities of about 20000 km/s.
