Bonnaud and E. Pecontal, Centre de Recherche Astronomique de Lyon; R. Kessler, Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics, Chicago; and C. Baltay, D. Rabinowitz, and A. Bauer, Yale University) reports that a spectrum (range 320-1000 nm) of SN 2005dm (cf. CBET 203, IAUC 8589), obtained Aug. 27.6 UT with the Supernova Integral Field Spectrograph on the University of Hawaii 2.2-m telescope, shows it to be a peculiar type-Ia supernova around maximum light. The spectrum is similar to that of the underluminous supernova 1991bg, exhibiting a classic Ti II trough at 400-450 nm.
