Armstrong, Rolvenden, U.K., reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.9) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Aug. 30.086 and 30.895 UT with a 0.35-m reflector. SN 2005dq is located at R.A. = 22h44m46s.45, Decl. = +33o27'37".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately 9".4 east and 0".5 south of the center of UGC 12177. Nothing was visible at this position on his image taken on 2003 Sept. 21 (limiting mag 19.5) or on Palomar Sky Survey images from 1991 Sept. 13 (limiting red mag 20.8) and 1992 Oct. 19 (limiting blue mag 22.5).
