Puckett report their discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 19.0) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Sept. 7.36 UT with the 0.50-m Sehgal telescope (Osoyoos, BC) in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search (cf. IAUC 8580). SN 2005dy is located at R.A. = 4h28m38s.72, Decl. = +70o20'49".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 5".0 west and 1".3 south of the center of UGC 3042. Nothing is visible at this location on images taken by Puckett on July 27, 29, and Aug. 29 (limiting mag 20.5). A confirming image taken by Puckett on Sept. 11.35 showed the new object at mag 18.7.
