SUPERNOVAE 2005ek AND 2005el
     D. S. Wong, S. Park, K. Shimasaki, and A. V. Filippenko,
University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD
spectra (range 330-1000 nm), obtained on Sept. 26 UT with the Shane
3-m reflector at Lick Observatory, shows that SN 2005ek (CBET 232)
is a young supernova, probably of type Ic.  SN 2005el (CBET 233)
is of type Ia, a few days before maximum brightness.
