Puckett and P. Ceravolo report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.2) on an unfiltered CCD frame taken with the 0.60-m automated supernova patrol telescope on Oct. 5.18 UT. The new object was confirmed at mag 16.8 by D. George, Ottawa, ON, with a 0.40-m reflector on CCD frames taken on Oct. 12.14. SN 2005gl is located at R.A. = 0h49m50s.02, Decl. = +32o16'56".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 29".8 east and 16".7 north of the center of NGC 266. Nothing is present at this location on images taken by Puckett on Sept. 3 and 10 (limiting mag about 20.0).
