Scala, A. V. Filippenko, and R. Chornock, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1020 nm), obtained on Jan. 24 UT with the Shane 3-m telescope at Lick Observatory, shows that SN 2006C (IAUC 8657) is a supernova of type II, with prominent hydrogen Balmer lines with P-Cyg profiles. However, the H-alpha emission component greatly dominates over H-alpha absorption. SN 2006J (IAUC 8661) also appears to be of type II; broad H-alpha emission, as well as possible absorption, is visible in the noisy spectrum (range only 560-1020 nm). SN 2006P (IAUC 8662) is probably of type Ia, about 2 weeks past maximum brightness.
