SubbaRao, University of Chicago and Adler Planetarium, on behalf of the SDSS Collaboration, reports the discovery in SDSS spectra of two supernovae that are each located at the center of their host galaxies. SN 2006ae was observed on Feb. 2.51 UT and is located at R.A. = 14h48m23s.27, Decl. = +21o47'51".5 (equinox 2000.0); it appears to be a type-Ia supernova with an approximate age of 6 +/- 5 days after maximum light, and its estimated magnitude is r = 20.7 +/- 0.4 (the host galaxy has apparent mag r = 17.29 from an image taken prior to the supernova event on 2004 June 13; the host galaxy has redshift z = 0.1557). SN 2006af (estimated mag r = 19.5 +/- 0.3) was observed on Feb. 4.38 and is located at R.A. = 10h33m57s.18, Decl. = +20o20'25".7, and it also appears to be a type-Ia supernova with an approximate age of 4 +/- 2 days before maximum light (the host galaxy has apparent mag r = 16.11 from an image taken prior to the supernova event on 2005 Mar. 12; its redshift is z = 0.0873).
