Contreras, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that a spectrogram (range 380-920 nm) of SN 2006bd (cf. IAUC 8693, CBET 448), obtained on Mar. 30.02 UT with the Las Campanas 2.5-m du Pont telescope (+ WFCCD spectrograph), reveals it to be a subluminous type-Ia supernova. The spectrum matches very well that of SN 1991bg at maximum light, as determined through use of the 'superfit' supernova-spectrum-comparison software of Howell et al. (2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190). Photometric follow-up observations, performed with the 1.0-m Swope telescope at Las Campanas, show a fast decline -- consistent with the subluminous nature inferred from the spectrum. Adopting a recesion velocity of 7712 km/s from the NED database (after Barton et al. 1998, A.J. 116, 1573), an expansion velocity of 10800 km/s is derived from the absorption minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm doublet.
