Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum (range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006bm (cf. IAUC 8699), obtained on Apr. 20.27 UT by W. Peters with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-Ia supernova several weeks past maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra indicates that SN 2006bm is similar to the normal type-Ia supernova 1994D at 45 days past maximum light (cf. Patat et al. 1996, MNRAS 278, 111), at an approximate redshift of z = 0.07 +/- 0.01 (cz = 21000 +/- 3000 km/s).
