Folatelli, Carnegie Supernova Project; R. Barba, La Serena University; and J. Arias, La Plata University, report that spectroscopy (wavelength range 342-960 nm) of SN 2006dd (cf. IAUC 8723, CBET 554), obtained on June 21.42 UT with the Magellan I 6.5-m telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, confirms the type-Ia nature of the event (cf. CBET 557). Adopting for the parent galaxy a recession velocity of 1760 km/s (Longhetti et al. 1998, A.Ap. Suppl. 130, 267), an expansion velocity of 11400 km/s is obtained from the minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption. Through the use of the supernova spectrum-comparison software 'superfit' (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190), an approximate age of 4 days before maximum light is derived, matching well the spectrum of SN 1994D at age -5 days.
