Monard reports his discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered CCD images taken on July 9.125 (at mag about 18.4 +/- 0.4), 11.164 (mag 18.5 +/- 0.5), and 12.156 UT (mag 18.3 +/- 0.3) with the 0.30-m reflector at the Bronberg Observatory near Pretoria, South Africa. SN 2006dp is located at R.A. = 1h00m38s.84, Decl. = -7o58'49".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 12" east and 3" north of the nucleus of MCG -01-3-56. Nothing is visible at this location on a red image of the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag 20.5 or on images taken by Monard on 2005 Dec. 30.775 (limiting red mag 19.0) and 2006 June 6.161 (limiting red mag 18.2.
