Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by K. Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) of an apparent supernova (mag 16.6) on numerous unfiltered CCD frames taken around July 25.54 UT with a 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 14h22m11s.45, Decl. = +13o55'14".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 10" east and 9" north of the center of NGC 5587 (whose center has position end figures 10s.74, 05".2). W. Li, University of California, reports the following position end figures for 2006dy from a KAIT image taken on July 26.20: 11s.55, 13".8. Additional available magnitudes for 2006dy: 2002 Jan. 19, [19.0 (Itagaki); 2006 June 28, [19.5 (Itagaki); July 22.22, 18.5 (Li, via KAIT); 26.20, 16.5 (Li, via KAIT). Itagaki adds that nothing is visible at the position of 2006dy on the Digitized Sky Survey.
