Filippenko, R. Chornock, R. J. Foley, D. S. Wong, M. Ganeshalingam, and M. Moore, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1040 nm), obtained on Sept. 2 UT with the Shane 3-m telescope (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that SN 2006ek (cf. IAUC 8741) if of type II, with a host-galaxy recession velocity of 6040 km/s; the broad H-alpha emission greatly dominates over the H-alpha absorption component. SN 2006el (cf. IAUC 8741) appears to be of type IIb, near maximum brightness (e.g., SN 1987K; Filippenko 1988, A.J. 96, 1941); broad H-alpha emission is weak, but H-alpha absorption is prominent. (This classification differs somewhat from that suggested by Blondin et al. on CBET 612). SN 2006em (cf. IAUC 8741) is a peculiar type-Ia supernova, similar to SN 1991bg (Filippenko et al. 1992, A.J. 104, 1543), in agreement with Blondin et al. (CBET 612). SN 2006ep (cf. CBET 609) is of type Ib/Ic, a few days before maximum brightness, again in general agreement with Blondin et al. (CBET 612).
