Turatto, and E. Cappellaro, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova; A. Magazzu', Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), report that a spectrum of SN 2007R (cf. CBET 823), obtained on Jan. 31.08 UT with the 3.5-m TNG (+ DOLORES; range 330-810 nm, resolution 1.8 nm), shows it to be a type-Ia supernova near maximum light. The spectrum closely resembles that of SN 1996X (Salvo et al. 2001, MNRAS 321, 254) at 1 day after maximum light. The expansion velocity, deduced from the Si II 635.5-nm absorption feature, is about 11600 km/s (the recession velocity of the parent galaxy is assumed to be 9219 km/s, from de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991, Third Reference Cat. of Bright Galaxies, via NED).
