Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.5 +/- 0.3) on unfiltered CCD images taken with a 0.35-m reflector on Feb. 15.774 UT, with confirming images on Feb. 16.740 showing the new object at mag about 17.1 +/- 0.2. SN 2007Y is located at R.A. = 3h02m35s.92, Decl. = -22o53'50".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is 24" west and 110" south of the nucleus of NGC 1187. Nothing is present at this location on an image taken by Monard on 2006 Dec. 13.855 (limiting red mag 18.0) or on earlier images taken there; also, nothing is visible at this position on the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag 20.5).
