Ganeshalingam, University of California, Berkeley, report that CCD spectra (range 340-1000 nm), obtained on June 23 UT with the 3-m Shane telescope at Lick Observatory, show that 2007cq (IAUC 8851) is a type-Ia supernova -- specifically of the SN-1999aa variety (Li et al. 2001, Ap.J. 546, 734; Garavini et al. 2004, A.J. 128, 387) -- possibly up to a week before maximum brightness. The spectrum redward of 520 nm is relatively featureless, with only weak Si II 635.5-nm and Ca II triplet absorption. Removing the recession velocity of 7770 km/s found from the host-galaxy spectrum, the minimum of the 635.5-nm Si II absorption is blueshifted by about 10400 km/s.
