Electronic Telegram No. 994 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVAE 2007ct AND 2007cu J. M. Silverman, M. Ganeshalingam, X. Wang, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra (range 330-1000 nm), obtained on July 7 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that both 2007ct and 2007cu (CBET 988) are type-II supernovae. Hydrogen Balmer lines having P-Cyg profiles are present in both spectra, although the emission component of H-alpha in 2007cu greatly dominates over the absorption component. Removing a recession velocity of 4198 km/s (Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287) for 2007ct, the minimum of the H-alpha absorption is blueshifted by 12500 km/s. Removing a recession velocity of 9401 km/s (Bottinelli et al. 1993, A.Ap. Suppl. 102, 57) for 2007cu, the minimum of the H-alpha absorption is blueshifted by about 9000 km/s, but this value is quite uncertain because the absorption component is weak.
