Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrogram (range 350-740 nm) of 2007fs (cf. CBET 1002), obtained by J. C. Hill on July 17.45 UT with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a reddened type-Ia supernova around maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra indicates that 2007fs is most similar to the type-Ia supernova 1995D at 4 days past maximum. Adopting a recession velocity of 5189 km/s for the host galaxy (from Da Costa et al. 1998, A.J. 116, 1), the maximum absorption in the Si II line (rest 635.5 nm) is blueshifted by roughly 11000 km/s. The Galactic extinction toward ESO 601-G5, based on maps by Schlegel et al. (1998, Ap.J. 500, 525), is A_B = 0.144 mag.
