Electronic Telegram No. 1093 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2007kj IN NGC 7803 F. Olivares, University of Chile; and G. Folatelli and N. Morrell, Las Campanas Observatory, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, report that a spectrum of 2007kj (cf. CBET 1092) obtained on Oct. 3.2 UT with the European Southern Observatory 3.6-m telescope (+ EFOSC2) at La Silla, shows this to be a type-Ib/c supernova. Assuming the NED recession velocity of 5366 km/s for the host galaxy (from Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287), the 'superfit' spectrum-comparison code (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190) shows that 2007kj is similar to SN 1999ex (cf. IAUC 7310) at five days after maximum light. Weak He I 587.5-, 706.5-, and 728.1-nm lines are detected with absorption minima wavelengths that indicate an expansion velocity of 7300 km/s, after correcting for the host-galaxy velocity given above. A strong absorption is observed at about 625.0 nm, which could be identified as high-velocity (14000 km/s) H-alpha, although no evidence is found of H-beta at the same expansion velocity.
