Electronic Telegram No. 1145 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Marion, University of Texas and Texas State University; and P. Garnavich, University of Notre Dame, report that they obtained near-infrared spectra (range 0.7-2.5 microns) of 2007qe (cf. CBET 1138) with the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (+ SPEX) on Nov. 16 UT. A preliminary reduction of the spectrum is consistent with a type-Ia supernova well before optical maximum. However, the Ca II triplet feature (at 0.82 microns) shows an unusually deep high-velocity component at v = 21000 km/s with an uncertainty of 2500 km/s -- an uncertainty that is large because there is no published redshift for the faint host galaxy and there is no way of measuring the galaxy's redshift from these spectra.
