SUPERNOVA 2007ru IN UGC 12381
     R. Chornock, F. J. D. Serduke, X. Wang, A. V. Filippenko, and W. Li,
University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra
(range 330-1030 nm), obtained on Dec. 1 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+
Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2007ru (CBET 1149) is a
peculiar type-Ic supernova before maximum brightness.  Unlike the case in
most other type-Ic supernovae, the Ca II H-and-K and Ca II near-infrared-
triplet absorption troughs are weak.  If the absorption feature near 730 nm
is attributed to O I 777.4-nm, it is blueshifted by about 19000 km/s.
