Electronic Telegram No. 1190 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2007st IN NGC 692 N. Morrell, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, reports that a spectrum (range 380-940 nm) of 2007st (cf. CBET 1177), obtained on Dec. 28.20 UT with the Magellan I Baade telescope (+ IMACS spectrograph) at Las Campanas Observatory, reveals this to be a type-Ia supernova. Assuming for NGC 692 the NED recession velocity of 6350 km/s (from the H I Parkes All Sky Survey Final Catalog) the 'superfit' comparison tool (Howell et al. 2005, Ap.J. 634, 1190) yields a spectral-feature age of 10 +/- 2 days and a good match to the spectrum of SN 2005am (cf. IAUCs 8490, 8491) at 12 days after maximum light. NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are sometimes superseded by text appearing later in the printed IAU Circulars.
