Electronic Telegram No. 1272 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html POSSIBLE NOVA IN M33 S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery of an apparent nova (mag 16.5) on nine 30-s unfiltered CCD frames taken around Feb. 27.47 UT by K. Nishiyama (Kurume, Fukuoka-ken, Japan) and F. Kabashima (Miyaki-cho, Saga-ken, Japan) using a 0.40-m f/9.8 reflector (limiting magnitude 18.5). Confirming images from Feb. 28.45 show the new object at mag 16.7. The apparent nova is located at R.A. = 1h34m16s.42 +/- 0s.05, Decl. = +30o39'28".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 330" east and 8" south of the nucleus of M33. Nothing is visible at this location on their CCD frames taken on Feb. 20.488 and 21.496 (limiting mag 18.0-18.1) or on the Digitized Sky Survey.
