Electronic Telegram No. 1352 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html NOVA SAGITTARII 2008 U. Munari and A. Siviero, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Padova Astronomical Observatory; and S. Moretti, S. Tomaselli, A. Maitan, F. Castellani, S. Dallaporta, and P. Ochner, ANS ("Asiago Novae and Symbiotic stars") collaboration, write that this nova (CBETs 1342, 1344; IAUC 8937) is on a steady rise toward maximum that is taking it into the realm of naked-eye visibility. The brightening slope over the last four days has been -0.73 mag/day in B, -0.69 mag/day in V, and -0.71 mag/day in I_c, bringing the nova from B = 9.43, B-V = +0.81, V-I_c = +2.15 on Apr. 19.61 UT to B = 6.86, B-V = +1.21, V-I_c = +1.18 on Apr. 23.12. The bluest colors were reached around Apr. 21.7, with B-V = +0.57 and V-I_c = +0.68. Photoelectric magnitudes from M. M. M. Santangelo, Capannori, Italy: Apr. 20.092 UT, V = 8.80, B-V = +1.06 (0.30-m telescope + SSP-5A photometer; comparison star HD 164719).
