Electronic Telegram No. 1414 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. Blondin, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrum (range 400-1000 nm) of 2008do (cf. CBET 1413), obtained on June 24 UT by G. Armstrong (University of Sydney) and P. Challis (CfA) with the Magellan Clay 6.5-m telescope (+ LDSS3), shows it to be a young type-II supernova. The spectrum consists of a blue continuum with shallow P-Cyg profiles of the Balmer series and He I (587.6 nm). Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2008do is most similar to the type-II-plateau supernova 2004et at two weeks past explosion. Adopting a recession velocity of 15548 km/s for the host galaxy (from The Updated Zwicky Catalog, http://tdc-www.harvard.edu/uzc/), the maximum absorption in the H_beta line (rest 486.1 nm) is blueshifted by roughly 11000 km/s.
