Electronic Telegram No. 1657 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2009F IN NGC 1725 H. Marion, University of Texas; P. Garnavich, University of Notre Dame; C. L. Gerardy, Florida State University; S. Gooding, Texas A&M University, J. Vinko, University of Texas; and E. Hsiao, University of Victoria, write that they obtained a spectrogram (range 0.7-2.4 microns) of 2009F (cf. CBETs 1650, 1654) on Jan. 7.28 UT with the Infrared Telescope Facility (+ SpeX in low-dispersion mode). The spectrum displays features from Ca II, Mg II, and O I lines and is consistent with a type-Ia supernova observed near maximum light. The infrared spectrum of SN 2009F is similar to spectra from SNE 2002hw (obtained one day before maximum) and 2000dm (obtained one day after maximum).
