Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.1 +/- 0.4) on an unfiltered CCD image taken on Jan. 15.806 UT at his Bronberg Observatory; additional images (limiting mag around 19) by Monard yield the following magnitudes for 2009O: Jan. 16.775, 17.2; 19.781, 17.3; 22.806, 17.5. The new object is located at R.A. = 3h29m02s.35, Decl. = -52o37'00".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 7" west and 27" north of the core of a galaxy in the Abell cluster 3128; while 2009O is west of the core of the galaxy IC 1946, 2009O likely belongs to an another galaxy to the southwest of IC 1946. A faint, extended object of mag > 18.8 is shown at this position in Monard's earlier images of this galaxy (most recently from 2006 Feb. 2.816) and on Digitized Sky Survey images.
