Morrell, on behalf of the Millenium Center for Supernova Studies and the Carnegie Supernova Project collaboration, report that they obtained a spectrum (range 390-940 nm) of 2009da (cf. CBET 1758) on Apr. 17.4 UT with the Magellan II Clay 6.5-m telescope (+ LDSS3) at Las Campanas Observatory, which shows it to be a type-Ia supernova. Comparison with a library of supernova spectra via the "Supernova Identification" tool (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) provides very good matches with normal type-Ia events at 12-15 days past maximum light. Adopting for the host galaxy (2MASX J21420805-0646297) the NED recession velocity of 15678 km/s (Slinglend et al. 1998, Ap.J. Suppl. 115, 1), the minimum of the 635.5-nm Si II absorption line is blueshifted by 10400 km/s.
