Bufano, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova (OAPD); J. Mendez-Abreu, Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC); and S. Benetti, INAF, OAPD, report that a spectrogram (range 350-750 nm; resolution 2.0 nm) of 2009id (cf. CBET 1905), obtained on Aug. 14.04 UT with New Technology Telescope (+ EFOSC2), shows it to be a young type-II supernova. Assuming a recession velocity of 5300 km/s (Radburn-Smith et al. 2006, MNRAS 369, 1131; via NED) for the host galaxy, the GELATO spectrum-comparison code (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; available at https://gelato.tng.iac.es) provides good fits to spectra of type-II supernovae within two weeks from the explosion. The expansion velocity, deduced from the H-beta absorption, is about 9700 km/s.
