Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley; and R. J. Foley, Center for Astrophysics; report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 320-1020 nm), obtained on Sept. 22 UT with the Keck I 10-m telescope (+ LRIS), shows that 2009iq (CBET 1929) is a type-II supernova, probably 1-2 months past explosion, with prominent P-Cyg profiles of hydrogen Balmer lines that are suggestive of the type II-P subclass. The minimum of the H-alpha absorption line is blueshifted by 8000 km/s.
