Kankare and P. A. Wilson, Nordic Optical Telescope, report that they obtained a low-resolution spectrum of 2009iy (cf. CBET 1944) on Oct. 14.2 UT with the Nordic Optical Telescope (+ ALFOSC; range 320-910 nm). Comparison of the observed spectrum with a library of supernova spectra was performed with the "GELATO" code (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383). Adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of 7491 km/s (Falco et al. 1999, PASP 111, 438), the spectrum of 2009iy appears similar to normal type-Ia supernovae at about 2 to 3 months after maximum light (most similar to SN 2005cf at 77 days past maximum).
