Inserra, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Osservatorio Astronomico di Catania; and F. Bufano and S. Benetti, INAF, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, report that a spectrogram (range 350-750 nm, resolution 1.4 nm) of 2009jz (cf. CBET 1984), obtained on Oct. 22.33 UT with the New Technology Telescope (+ EFOSC2) shows it to be an underluminous type-Ia supernova. Assuming a host-galaxy recession velocity of 7183 km/s (Nicolaci da Costa et al. 1991, Ap.J. Suppl. 75, 935; via NED) for the host galaxy, the comparison of the observed spectrum with a library of supernova spectra performed with the "GELATO" code (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383, available at website URL https://gelato.tng.iac.es/login.cgi) shows strong resemblance to SN 1991bg (Turatto et al. 1996, MNRAS 283, 1) around maximum light.
