Electronic Telegram No. 2318 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Room 209; Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbat@iau.org; cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2010dz J. Newton and T. Puckett reported the discovery of a possible supernova (mag 18.1) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 18.8) taken with a 0.40-m reflector at Portal, AZ, U.S.A., on May 31.26 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object, which was confirmed at mag 18.1 on images (limiting mag 18.9) taken by T. Orff on June 2.22 with a 0.40-m reflector at Portal, is located at R.A. = 13h50m44s.39, Decl. = +17o03'58".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 132" west and 47" north of the center of UGC 8755. Nothing is visible at this position on images taken by Puckett on 2010 May 20 (limiting mag 19.2) or in any images of this galaxy taken by Puckett over the past ten years. After posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, D. D. Balam, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, National Research Council of Canada, reports that he finds an object with magnitude V = 19.35, colors B-V = 0.0 and V-R = +0.15, and position end figures 44s.42, 58".4 on CCD images (limiting mag around 21.8) taken with the 1.82-m Plaskett Telescope on June 8.29 UT, adding that there is a very faint galaxy very close to that position, which has magnitudes g = 22.0, r = 21.6, and i = 21.6 in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (position end figures 44s.29, 58".6, with Balam's independent astrometry agreeing to within the measuring uncertainty), with 2010dz being located 1".4 east of the very faint galaxy. Another faint galaxy (with g = 22.2, r = 21.4; SDSS J135044.39+170405.6) is located 7".1 due south of 2010dz. Nothing is visible at the position of 2010dz on the SDSS images to a limiting magnitude fainter than g = 22 (and perhaps near g = 23).
