A. G. Monard, Pretoria, S. Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (magnitude 15.0) on several unfiltered CCD images taken on Sept. 1.143 UT at the Bronberg Observatory. The new object, which was confirmed at mag 14.7 via images taken on Sept. 2.138, is located at R.A. = 9h46m13s.7, Decl. = -30d27'13".3 (equinox 2000.0), or 64" west and 58" south of the core of the nearby type-Sbc galaxy NGC 3001; 2010hg is located in or near one of the outer spiral arms. Nothing is seen at this position on Digitized Sky Survey images (limiting red mag 20.5) or on the previous image of this galaxy taken at the Bronberg Observatory on Aug. 2.690 (limiting mag 18.0) or on earlier images from there.
