Miluzio, Padua University; and E. Cappellaro, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, report their discovery of an apparent supernova in the course of the European Southern Observatory "Infrared Supernova Search in Starburst Galaxies" performed with the HAWK-I instrument at the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The new object was first detected on a K-band image obtained on July 21.26 UT at magnitude K = 17.1 (limiting mag K = 19) and was confirmed on an image taken on Aug. 7.39 at magnitude K = 16.9 (limiting K magnitude 20). The presumed supernova is located at R.A. = 0h18m50s.01, Decl.= -10o21'40".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 2".6 west and 2".7 north of the center of MCG -02-01-52. Nothing is visible at this position on K-band images taken on 2009 Aug. 25.41 (limiting K magnitude 20). No optical images have been obtained yet.
