Electronic Telegram No. 2829 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011fw IN MCG +06-8-15 = PSN J03205424+3752053 F. Ciabattari and E. Mazzoni, Borgo a Mozzano, Italy, report the discovery of a possible supernova (mag 17.2) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 18.5) obtained on Sept. 23.04 and 23.92 UT with a 0.5-m Newtonian telescope in the course of the Italian Supernovae Search Project. The new object is located at R.A. = 3h20m54s.24, Decl. = +37d52'05".3 (equinox 2000.0; astrometry with respect to UCAC-2 stars), which is 8" east and 3" north of the center of the galaxy MCG +06-8-15. Nothing is visible at this position on digitized plates of the Palomar Sky Survey from 1989 Sept. 29 (F plate; limiting magnitude 20.3) and 1996 Oct. 18 (J plate; limiting magnitude 20.3). The variable was designated PSN J03205424+3752053 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011fw based on the spectroscopic report below. Joseph Brimacombe, Cairns, Australia, reports unfiltered CCD magnitude 18.0 and position end figures 54s.18, 04".7 for 2011fw from an image taken on Sept. 24.394. Brimacombe's image is posted at the following website URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/43846774@N02/6179668611/. L. Tomasella, S. Valenti, P. Ochner, S. Benetti, and E. Cappellaro, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica; and A. Pastorello, Dipartimento di Astronomia, Universita di Padova, on behalf of a larger collaboration, report that a spectrogram (range 360-810 nm; resolution 2.2 nm) of PSN J03205424+3752053 = SN 2011fw, obtained on Sept. 23.99 UT, suggests that it is a type-Ia supernova observed about six weeks past B-band maximum.
