Electronic Telegram No. 2951 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION CBAT Director: Daniel W. E. Green; Hoffman Lab 209; Harvard University; 20 Oxford St.; Cambridge, MA 02138; U.S.A. e-mail: cbatiau@eps.harvard.edu (alternate cbat@iau.org) URL http://www.cbat.eps.harvard.edu/index.html Prepared using the Tamkin Foundation Computer Network SUPERNOVA 2011jf IN UGC 2134 = PSN J02385461+2750487 Giancarlo Cortini, Predappio, Italy, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 17.5) on several unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag 18.5) taken on Dec. 22.833 UT with a Celestron 14 telescope (+ SXVR-H9 camera). The new object is located at R.A. = 2h38m54s.61, Decl. = +27d50'48".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3" east and 1" south of the center of UGC 2134. Nothing is visible at this position on Cortini's images from Oct. 15.90 and Nov. 20.88 (limiting mag 18.5) or on the Palomar Sky Survey (red and blue plates). The variable was designated PSN J02385461+2750487 when it was posted at the Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011jf based on the spectroscopic confirmation reported below. L. Tomasella, S. Valenti, S. Benetti, F. Bufano, M. Fiaschi, A. Pastorello, and P. Ochner, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, on behalf of a larger collaboration, report that a spectrogram of PSN J02385461+2750487 = SN 2011jf, obtained on Dec. 23.72 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range 350-820 nm; resolution 2.4 nm), suggests that 2011jf is a type-Ib/c supernova showing relatively broad spectral features. Good fits to this spectrum found by GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383; available at website URL https://gelato.tng.iac.es/login.cgi) suggest that 2011jf shows some similarity with SN 2004aw (Taubenberger et al. 2006, MNRAS 371, 1459) around maximum.
