Wang, Y. Yang, Tsinghua Center for Astrophysics (THCA), Tsinghua University, Beijing; and Y.-L. Qiu, National Astronomical Observatories of China (NAOC), report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 17) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Dec. 23.73 UT with the 0.8-m THCA-NAOC Telescope (TNT) in the course of the THCA Supernova Survey. The new object is located at R.A. = 8h27m06s.36, Decl. = +21o38'45".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 4".8 east and 3".2 north of the center of the galaxy UGC 4414. Nothing was visible at this location on a TNT template image obtained on Nov. 29 (limiting mag 18.5). SN 2005mc also appears on TNT images from Dec. 24 (in poor seeing) and 25.63 (at mag about 16.5). W. Li, University of California at Berkeley, reports that KAIT images taken around Dec. 25.35 confirm 2005mc, while a KAIT image of the same field taken on Dec. 5.43 shows nothing (limting mag about 19.5).
