Puckett report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.2) on CCD images taken with a 0.35-m reflector telescope at Portal, AZ, on 2005 Dec. 31.25 UT in the course of the Puckett Observatory Supernova Search. The new object was confirmed at mag 18.0 by Puckett on 2006 Jan. 1.13 with the 0.60-m reflector. SN 2005mz is located at R.A. = 3h19m49s.88, Decl. = +41o30'18".6 (equinox 2000.0), which is 19".2 east and 23".6 south of the center of NGC 1275. Nothing is visible at this location on images taken by Puckett on 2005 Dec. 3 (limiting mag 19.8), or on earlier images taken over the last seven years by Puckett. SN 1968A also appeared in NGC 1275 (cf. IAUC 2051). NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are sometimes superseded by text appearing later in the printed IAU Circulars.
