Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 18.4 +/- 0.3) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Mar. 19.811 UT; the new object was confirmed on Mar. 25.847 at mag about 17.7 +/- 0.2. SN 2006ba is located at R.A. = 9h43m13s.40, Decl. = -9o36'53".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 21" east and 8" south of the nucleus of NGC 2980. Nothing is visible at this location on an image taken by Monard on Feb. 5.036 (limiting red mag 18.8) or on a Digitized Sky Survey image (limiting red mag 20.5).
