Mondol, and F. Castro, University of Texas, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered CCD images taken on May 17.23 (at mag about 18.1), 18.24 (mag about 18.0), and 19.28 UT (poor conditions; mag about 17.7) with the 0.45-m ROTSE-IIIb telescope at the McDonald Observatory. SN 2006cj is located at R.A. = 12h59m24s.42, Decl. = +28o20'51".7 (equinox 2000.0; estimated uncertainty 0".5 in each coordinate), which is 4" east and 2" north of the center of the apparent host galaxy (catalogued redshift of z = 0.068 from Cortese et al. 2003, A.Ap. 401, 471; via NED). SN 2006cj was found by subtracting a co-addition of images taken between 2004 Dec. 15 and 2006 Jan. 10 (limiting mag about 19.3) from the 2006 May images.
