Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.3) on multiple unfiltered CCD frames taken by K. Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) around Sept. 18.78 UT using a 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector (limiting mag 19.5); a confirming image on Sept. 19.399 shows the new object at mag 16.4. SN 2006gi is located at R.A. = 10h16m46s.76 +/- 0s.02, Decl. = +73o26'26".4 +/- 0".3 (equinox 2000.0), which is 30" west and 144" north of the center of NGC 3147. Nothing is visible at this location on Itagaki's frames taken on Mar. 22 and June 3 (limiting mag 19.0) or on the Digitized Sky Survey.
