Kloehr, Schweinfurt, Germany, reports his discovery of an apparent supernova (red mag about 15.1) on seven unfiltered CCD images taken with a 25.4-cm Meade DSI-Pro II telescope on Dec. 24.99 UT, giving the position of the new object as R.A. = 1h58m15s.7, Decl. = +36o20'58".3 (equinox 2000.0), or 4".5 north of the center of the apparent faint host galaxy. G. Masi, Ceccano, Italy, reports that unfiltered CCD images taken on Dec. 25.89 show 2006td at mag about 15.0 and at measured position end figures 15s.76, 57".7 (astrometry based on 433 stars from the USNO-B1.0 catalogue). Nothing is visible at this location on a Palomar Sky Survey image (limiting I magnitude about 19), an unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag about 18.3) taken in 2002 by D. Briggs (Clanfield, U.K.), an image taken by Kloehr on 2006 Oct. 17 (limiting mag about 16), or an undated composite 'RGB' CCD image (limiting mag about 19.5) taken by O. Trondal (Oslo, Norway). An unfiltered CCD image taken by P. Corelli (Pagnacco, Italy) on Dec. 25.914 yields mag 15.6 for the new object.
