Electronic Telegram No. 1062 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2007il IN IC 1704 Further to CBET 1048, J. Chu and W. Li report the discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images taken on Sept. 10.45 (at mag 18.4) and 12.43 UT (mag 18.1). The new object, designated 2007il, is located at R.A. = 1h27m09s.75, Decl. = +14o46'46".5 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3".5 east and 12".3 north of the nucleus of IC 1704. A KAIT image taken on Sept. 2.44 showed nothing at this location (limiting mag 19.3). S. Blondin, R. Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum (range 350-740 nm) of 2007il, obtained on Sept. 12.41 UT by P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a young type-II supernova. The spectrum consists of a featureless and blue continuum with weak P-Cyg profiles of the Balmer series superimposed. Adopting a recession velocity of 6402 km/s for the host galaxy (from The Updated Zwicky Catalog, http://tdc-www.harvard.edu/uzc/), the maximum absorption in the H_alpha line (rest 656.3 nm) is blueshifted by roughly 14000 km/s.
