Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 15.0 +/- 0.3) on CCD images taken on Dec. 22.29 and 23.24 UT. The new object is located at R.A. = 1h48m42s.47, Decl. = -48o38'57".8 (equinox 2000.0), which is 4" east and 4" south of the nucleus of the galaxy NGC 692. Nothing is visible at this position on the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag 20.5) or on an image taken on Dec. 1.25 by Monard (limiting red mag 18.8).
