Monard, Pretoria, South Africa, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered CCD images taken on Apr. 7.765 (at red mag 18.4 +/- 0.4) and confirmed on Apr. 8.739 (mag 18.6 +/- 0.3) and 9.784 (mag 17.9). The new object is located at R.A. = 9h55m07s.67, Decl. = -33o08'22".7 (equinox 2000.0; reference stars from UCAC2 catalogue), which is 17" west and 9" south of the core of IC 2522. Nothing is visible at this position on his images taken on Mar. 20.9 (limiting mag 18.5) and earlier or on Digitized Sky Survey images (limiting red mag 20); the presence of 2008br near the magnitude limit on an Apr. 2.823 image taken by Monard is uncertain (limiting mag 18.5).
