Electronic Telegram No. 1832 Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION M.S. 18, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A. IAUSUBS@CFA.HARVARD.EDU or FAX 617-495-7231 (subscriptions) CBAT@CFA.HARVARD.EDU (science) URL http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/iau/cbat.html SUPERNOVA 2009fu IN NGC 846 S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by K. Itagaki (Teppo-cho, Yamagata) of an apparent supernova (mag 15.7) on numerous unfiltered 15-s CCD frames (limiting mag 19.0) taken over 30 minutes around June 1.746 UT using a 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 2h12m09s.00, Decl. = +44o33'55".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is 36" west and 11" south of the center of NGC 846. Nothing is visible at this position on Itagaki's image from Mar. 17 (limiting mag 18.0), on his earlier exposures (limiting mag 19.0), and on the Digitized Sky Survey. Following posting on the Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, S. Kiiyota (Tsukuba, Japan) writes that he obtained a CCD image remotely using a "Global Rent-A-Scope" 30-cm reflector near Mayhill, NM, on June 3.45, yielding magnitude V = 15.7 and position end figures 09s.20, 55".2 for 2009fu. SN 2003ja (cf. IAUC 8231) also appeared in NGC 846. NOTE: These 'Central Bureau Electronic Telegrams' are sometimes superseded by text appearing later in the printed IAU Circulars.
