Claremont, Western Australia, reports the discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered 20-s CCD iamges taken with a Celestron 23-cm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector (+ Artemis ART-285 CCD camera; image scale 2".2/pixel) on June 13.67 and 15.604 UT. C. Jacques and E. Pimentel, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, obtained 120-s confirming images (limiting mag 18.6) on June 15.591 (showing 2009gg at mag 15.8) and 16.704 (mag 16.1) using a 30-cm f/3 reflector at the GRAS Observatory at Moorook, S. Australia; they measure 2009gg to be located at R.A. = 21h01m29s.91, Decl. = -52d01'00".2 (equinox 2000.0), which is 1".4 west and 3".4 south of the nucleus of the galaxy PGC 65919. Nothing is visible at this location on a U.K. Schmidt Telescope plate from 1992 July 27 (limiting red mag about 18) or on a Digitized Sky Survey image taken on 1981 Aug. 26 (limiting magnitude 19.5).
